The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) is the internationally recognised qualification for computer users.
ECDL improves learners’ understanding of computers and promotes efficient use of software. The course opens up a variety of opportunities through the broad range of skills it provides.
The qualification is widely recognised by employers as proof of ability and competence when working with IT.
The seven ECDL Units are:
ECDL maps to the international ECDL syllabus with the exception of “Security for IT Users” which has been designed to meet UK standards.
In Nairn Academy ECDL is run for senior pupils and staff through a self-learning programme. Candidates use online training materials, provided by Activ Solutions (BCS approved), to assist them in overtaking the course materials. When all materials are complete the teacher/trainer contacts the Moray College Nairn Learning Centre where a test will be assigned to the candidates account for the next available test date. We aim to complete the course within one session by implementing the following pathway:
The recommended pathway for ECDL in Nairn Academy is:
- Module 2 – Test Month = OCTOBER
- Module 3 – Test Month = NOVEMBER
- Module 4 – Test Month = DECEMBER
- Module 6 – Test Month = FEBRUARY
- Module 7 – Test Month = MARCH
- Module 1 – Test Month = MARCH
- Module 5 – Test Month = APRIL
Candidates will be allowed to complete tests earlier than scheduled if they complete all the training materials. Some candidates will be allowed to sit 2 or more unit tests in a single session at the NLC if they are deemed ready by their teacher/trainer.
PUPIL NOTE: Pupils not sticking to the above timescale will be taken to task. The pathway has been designed to allow candidates, regardless of previous ICT background, an easy opportunity to acheive the qualification within 1 session. No pupil should miss the deadlines set by the teacher/trainer/learning centre.
